Everyone needs a break

September 27, 2011

I have nothing to post about today.  I tried a memory game coloring matching activity this morning and not sure if it was too difficult or he was just not into it, but it bombed.   And then today was Mother’s Day Out so he wasn’t here. And now.. he’s watching Finding Nemo and looking at his ocean book.

Today when I dropped him off and came home, Evie and I took a 2 hour nap followed by girl’s lunch with one of my best friends, Brittany.  And I thought about how great this is.  No pretend play to force myself to dream up and get through.  No activities to feel like I failed attempting.  No therapy sessions.  Just a long nap and a fun lunch.  Because everyone needs a break. And sometimes when you are in the tornado, its hard to realize just how badly you need a recharge day.

Rett’s major accomplishments lately: last night when he was crying, Tom went up and Rett said ‘I need my milk.’   We were overjoyed when he started saying ‘milk’ instead of just making us guess why he was crying a few months ago so this was awesome!  Today when he brought his candy (fruit snacks) to me he said ‘Need open’.  FINALLY we’ve gotten to the point that ‘open’ means you have access to something. He’s never quite grasped that. Of course the rest of the time it was just ‘candy’. But whatever.. we’ll take some progress over none.

Today I called our private speech place to find out prices and all that fun stuff.  I still need to call insurance to figure out if they cover OT at the same 80/20 as speech but so far it looks like our insurance is amazing.

We have our Early Intervention lady coming tomorrow with some activities to do so that will be fun.

Other then that,  I called Stella today to get a random beach trip scheduled for next week and it looks like we are going to be hitting the semi-warm beaches of Florida!  The beach condo is like a little slice of paradise.  Ok we can’t swim. Or lay out.  That’s besides the point. If you need a relaxing, recharge vacation you can’t beat it. Its not about the swimming and laying out.  Its about walking the beach and looking for sea shells and that being the only things on the agenda.  Its great.
