Summer fun starts NOW!

June 4, 2013

I am so excited for this summer!  Thad is older, can enjoy more AND wear sun screen (such a bonus) so we can really get out and enjoy events this summer. We left our water table in Oklahoma so one of our first summer purchases was another one. The kids have played with or begged to play with it everyday.  I keep adding different things to the table to keep them enthused and interested.  I need to start pinning some things on pinterest to keep us going all summer.  One way that I’ve been using it for speech is putting things in and having Rett say if it ‘DOES’ or ‘DOES NOT’ float. He’s been working pretty hard core on negatives lately so its just a fun (and real life!) way to work on that vocab.

Evie mostly wants to dump, drink and spit the water.   Hello oral sensory issues.

We’ve been going out house hunting.  We made an hour and a half drive out to see one house. Which I love.  Which the area is completely inappropriate for us to live in. I love it anyway.  We decided to make our very first ever family visit to the lake.  The kids were dutifully impressed.  Evie loved the water, Rett loved the sand.  The lake didn’t bother Rett NEAR as much as the beach which just reiterated to me that it isn’t the sand he dislikes at the beach but the ocean’s wave crashing noise overwhelms him.  When we go to the ocean he is just constantly trying to run back to the board walk. He was perfectly fine at the lake in the sand. In fact he threw a huge crying fit when we had to leave.

Of course Thad was happy.

Someone had dug out a little mini pond and Evie really enjoyed jumping in.  At one point a little girl (about 8 or 9) came over and asked her if she was allowed to go out into the big lake.  Evie ignored her.  Then the little girl asked her where her mama was.  She ignored her.  I had to get onto Evie about something and the little girl asked me how old she was and if she could talk.   Just an example of the type of social issues Evie has.  At home she is a regular chatter box with us of course.

On Sunday we packed up and went back to our strawberry farm we picked at last year. I knew it was going to get too hot if we put it off much longer.

Rett has grown up so much this year. He carried the bucket the entire time. Got onto Evie for eating strawberries out of the bucket. He took his job very seriously.  He looks like such a little country boy here.

Evie spent most of her time taking one bite of berry and throwing it down.  Not much help on the berry picking front.

Summer hasn’t even officially begun but we’re already working off our bucket list of things to enjoy together.  Bring on summer!
