Kindergarten Week 7

January 4, 2015

Week 7 has sort of been happening since the week of Christmas.  I was planning on homeschooling through the holidays to play catch up but.. they are the holidays.  I had a goal to get through some of our workbooks so we could start the new ones I ordered and we did that.   I’ll do another post on a list of things we have used and are now moving into.

This was our crayon resist art project. I really like how Rett’s turned out. I ended up cutting and framing it for our wall.

I didn’t take a whole lot of photos this week.  We are still working on tally marks.  Rett is really good at it! I like these sheets since you can look up at the top at what its supposed to look like.

We’re also working on ten frames.  We talked about how the ten frame is like a bus with 10 seats and if the bus is full that’s 10.  Counting on is still a new skill and I think developmentally they are a little young for it but we’re practicing.

We’re also working on counting syllables.  I remember this from my elementary music class.  She would have us line up at the door by the syllables in our name sometimes.  We would put our hand flat under our chin, say our name slowly and every time our mouth touched our hand, that was a syllable.

Some things we’ve been working on that I don’t have pictures for, i started a chapter book with them.  We’re reading the first from the Boxcar Children series.  Everyday we discuss our story map that I drew on chart paper and discuss the last chapter we read.  Some of the concepts are hard to explain like how they are orphans or when the baker and his wife want to take Benny to the boys’ home.  But we are sort of plowing ahead.  We’re also working on retelling with our stories we read every morning.  This week I focused on Snowmen at Night.  Evie isn’t there yet but she’s ahead of Rett. I’m hoping through repetitive practice, visual charts and story maps this skill will come.

Other then that we’ve just been enjoying the holiday season!

Gigi and Papah bought the kids a trampoline for Christmas and its great for taking some sensory breaks when Rett is getting tired.  Jumping AND dodge ball.

Here’s my pinterest board for this week if you see anything you’d like to print!
